Staff and volunteers from The Alliance for a Healthier Generation will inspire participants to conceive and achieve fitness and wellness goals. This is an excellent workshop for parents to attend with their teens. To make lifelong healthy habits a family affair, parents will be able to assist their teens with implementing many of ideas shared in this workshop. (Workshop available at 11:00am, 11:50am, and 12:40pm)

EXPLORING STEM ACTIVITIES
Explore websites, tools & other resources to learn about Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM). Learn how STEM can be a very exciting & rewarding career choice. Opportunities include: FIRST Robotics Competition, National Science Bowl, the Invention Challenge, among others. Parents attending the event are encouraged to attend this workshop with your child. (Workshop available at 11:00am, 11:50am, and 12:40pm)

IS YOUR P.I.E. BAKING?

Students will walk away from this workshop with a plan for how to sell and market themselves in the higher education & business worlds. (Workshop available at 11:00am, 11:50am, and 12:40pm)

HOW TO GET TO THE NEXT LEVEL
This workshop requires a look in the mirror, as students will learn how to assess their strengths, embrace their self-worth and develop a vision and a plan to execute, which will elevate them from their current state and carry them throughout their life span. Darius Stanton, a solutions-based motivational speaker with years of experience with local area Boys & Girls Clubs, will create a fun and engaging environment in this workshop as the students develop a blueprint that will help them to continuously push themselves onward and upward. QUICK & EASY FOOD OPTIONS for YOUTH

In this HANDS-ON cooking workshop, Chef Marcus Malone will teach students about healthy eating. There will be an emphasis on exploring the food, flavors, and spices of different cultures. This workshop has been designed to instruct participants on how to prepare healthier meal option at home with food items that are probably sitting in your refrigerator right now! In addition, participants will leave with a better understanding of food and food safety in order to protect against food borne illnesses.

Due to the hands-on nature of this workshop, and the limited number of portable burners available, participation in this workshop is limited to 15 students. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

**VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: This workshop is only available at 11:00am because it is an hour and a half. If you choose this workshop, you will participate in 2 workshops instead of 3, and the second workshop you choose should begin at 12:40pm.

DJing TECHNIQUES with DJ OXX
Shawn "DJ Oxx" Dillard is the founder and instructor for the Sound Engineering & DJ Academy right here in Prince George's County--the first accredited course of its kind in the country! In this hands-on, interactive workshop, DJ Oxx will demonstrate how to use today's DJing equipment, as well as teach students the basic techniques of DJing, bring them up to speed on a bit of hip hop music history, and school them in the fine art of scratching. (Workshop available at 11:00am, 11:50am, and 12:40pm)

COMPUTER GAMING/TECHNOLOGY
Develop and play computer games or operate a flight simulator, among other exciting hands-on experiences provided by Patriots Technology Training Center (PTTC). PTTC, an innovative educational fixture in the Prince George's County, was such a hit with their interactive computer technologies for YES 2012, we invited them back for an encore this year. Their mission is "Empowering Students Through Technology" by increasing the number of students exposed to careers in science, math, engineering, and computers, and their workshop does not disappoint! (Workshop available at 11:00am, 11:50am, and 12:40pm)

FAQs - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is my registration/ticket transferable?
YES!
If, for some reason, you are not able to attend the event, you may give your ticket to a friend.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
While you won't need your ticket to gain entry to YES 2013, it would be helpful if you print and bring your Order Confirmation to the event so you will know which workshops you chose. There's quite a bit of time between now and the event, and you're likely to forget which workshops you selected. So just to be on the safe side, bring your Order Confirmation with you.

What is the refund policy?
There will be no refunds for YES 2013, so please plan accordingly to ensure that you're able to attend. However, if you find that you can't make it after you've registered, please give your ticket to a friend so they can attend in your absence. But you don't want to miss this event!

The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?
Yes, that's just fine. Substitutions are allowed. However, the substitute must attend the workshops chosen by the original registrant.

Is YES 2013 open to parents?
Yes it is! Parents would simply register themselves just as they would register their children. There are a few workshops that encourage parent attendance, and we welcome your involvement and participation. We will even have a Parent's Lounge this year, so parents will have a place to relax when they aren't attending workshops with their children.
